  • Red-winged Blackbird and Red-shouldered blackbird together are closest relative to the tricoloured blackbird (Agelaius tricolour) that is found on the Pacific coast region of California and upper Baja California in Mexico.

  • Talking about the appearance, males are greenback along with rust-coloured (rufous) flanks, rump, and tail, howvever, females are also similarly coloured.

  • It was formally described by the German naturalist Johann Friedrich Gmelin in 1789 under the binomial name Turdus naevius.

  • The Baltimore oriole is the state bird of Maryland.
  • It is also the namesake and mascot for the Baltimore Orioles baseball team.
