The bird was first described by Carl Linnaeus in his landmark 1758 10th edition of Systema Naturae and the name was given was Recurvirostra avosetta. Talking about the appearance, It is one of the most beautiful black and white birds in the world popular for its striking white wader with bold black markings. Both males and females look similar and feed on crustaceans and insects.

The Indian paradise flycatcher is a medium-sized bird species native to Asia. It is mostly seen in the regions of the Indian subcontinent, Central Asia and Myanmar. The American Coot is a beautiful bird known for its small head and thin legs. Pied Bushchats is a small passerine bird mostly seen in the regions of West Asia and Central Asia to the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia. As of now, 16 subspecies have been identified on different islands and other shrubs. It used to prepare insects mainly from the ground and hence placed in the thrush family Turdidae, however, now it is considered an Old World flycatcher. The bird species is widely distributed in tropical southern Asia from the Greater Middle East through the Indian subcontinent eastwards to Indonesia. It loves to thrive in open habitats including scrub, grassland, and cultivation. The breeding season of the bird species is from March to Jun where males used to sing prominent perches.

A Heart-spotted woodpecker is a species of bird that belongs to the woodpecker family known as Picidae. The bird is known for its black and white plumage along with a large wedge-shaped head by which it can easily identify in the wild. The bird species has been recognized by the French naturalist René Lesson in 1832 and the specimen has been collected from Bago in Myanmar. It is mostly seen in the Himalayan forests of India and extends into Bangladesh, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam.

Pied Kingfisher is the only black and white kingfisher in the world. The species is widely distributed across Africa and Asia. Male species is known for its double black band across their breast and females have a black chest that is often broken with a white stripe in the middle. They are also social birds that appear in groups and form large roosts at night. It mainly feeds on fish and can swallow its prey in mid-flight. It is also one of the feastest kingfishers that can reach a speed of up to 50 km/h. It used to produce the sound “chirruk chirruk” and it is one of six species of kingfishers found at Kariega. The other ones are names as the giant, brown-hooded, pygmy, half-collared, and the malachite kingfishers. Kingfishers are also listed as one of the calmest birds or animals in the world.

10.Downy Woodpecker

Downy Woodpecker is the smallest and commonly seen woodpecker in Ohio state of the United States of America. It is also one of the common birds of Iowa. Talking about the appearance, they have black and white feathers and hence listed as one of the black and white birds in the world. The tail and wings are black, howvever, the stomach, chest, and back are white. It can grow upto 5 to 7 inches in length and once it stretches they appear longer. Males and females search for food in different areas where a male searches on smaller branches and a female looks for middle or lower areas of the trees. The primary reason for woodpeckers peck holes in the trees so that they will get destructive bugs called wood-boring larvae. They are ready to have babies in less than 1 year of age and eggs will take 12 days to hatch and will stay with parents for about a month.
